Aged 5, Luke stomped his foot and made it very clear that
if he was going
to learn a musical instrument, it was not going to be the same as
the one his brother and sister played. This meant that instead of
a handily transportable violin he chose the 'cello. Luckily it was
a good choice as he has continued to play it ever since.
Years of practise later, he joined a national chamber music group
and the Dorset Youth Orchestra and went on to perform concertos
with his school. After leaving school he played for a while in local
orchestras, occasionally performed with a London based music society,
and briefly joined a band (with Kate). Despite these efforts, he
eventually found himself stumbling through a musical desert.
It was then, however, that Luke moved to Bristol and attended the
Sidmouth International Folk Festival. There he discovered a way
out of the desert via the oasis of folk music. He dived straight
in and has been merrily swimming backstroke amongst the happy folkies
ever since. The most recent addition to the band, Luke lends the
music its depth and warmth.
